Parent Requirements

Each family at CSLA is here by choice and as such agrees to certain commitments each school year.

Volunteer Hours - Each family must submit a minimum of 18 volunteer hours from May 1- April 30 each year.  Hours can be completed in dozens of different ways including helping with PTA events, serving on other school support boards (Sports, Band, Strings), helping teachers, selling concessions at athletic events, assisting during Teacher Appreciation and chaperoning field trips just to name a few.  HALF of the hours must be from activities other than a field trip.  If families have children at more than one HCDE Magnet School, the 18 hours must be split equally between the schools.  Parents, step-parents and grandparents are eligible to complete the required hours.  We value and appreciate our volunteers so much1

Parent/Teacher Conferences - Each family will attend two conferences a year for each of their students.  Conferences are typically held in October and again in February or March.  These conferences (which are student-led beginning in 3rd or 4th grade) are viewed as a positive time of communication between teachers and parents and a time to celebrate accomplishments as well as discuss and trouble-shoot challenges.  Sign-ups for conferences are done online.

Attendance - Parents are responsible for ensuring their students have good attendance and are at school on time each day.  Failure to adhere to the Magnet School attendance guidelines can jeopardize a child's seat at CSLA.

Our parents are a crucial part of CSLA's success.  The role they play as partner and supporter is invaluable.  We love and appreciate them!
